What we are looking for?
In the Strategy & Architecture function (CTO) we are transforming the way we deliver services to our customers and interact with them, by simplifying and modernising our technology platforms. The team is responsible to define and enable the execution of our strategy by driving an adoption of automated, scalable, resilient, secure and performant technologies in the cloud as well as on-premise.
As a Principal Architect, a typical day might include the following:
• Develop, maintain and gain endorsement for the strategic reference architecture and roadmap to plan and guide investments in Payments domain or sub-domain to ensure progress is made to the realisation of an agreed set of business and technology goals
• Convert business objectives into the architecture and design that make up the solution blueprint for projects/investments, balancing the architectural concerns of the projects with the concerns of the enterprise
• Deliver Architecture Impact Assessments and Architecture Conceptual Design artefacts for delivery teams to build and deploy the solutions
• Identify the repeatable design patterns that should be applied within the domain and ensure that they are appropriately applied
• Apply Design Thinking principles such as customer empathy, creative collaboration and test & learn ensuring solutions address customer needs and are viable and feasible
• Provide guidance to solution designers on the architecture, engineering and SRE principles, and deployment of the solutions using modern architecture patterns and technologies
• Use awareness of Agile principles, techniques and processes and how they fit within the work environment to influence work approach and value creation
• Review the detailed design of the solution ensuring it aligns to the higher-level architectures
• Act as a leader, manager, mentor and coach to other architects
• Participate in the evolution of the architecture function, continuously learning and contributing to the architecture practice improvements at Westpac

What do I need?
• Extensive experience in cards issuing spanning originations and product servicing, predominantly in the business and corporate customer segments
• Experience in card payments particularly in self service devices (ATM/CDM/CEM)
• Experience working with external partners, vendors, card schemes, and industry bodies around innovations and mandates
• Experience in an eco-system of heritage applications and processes that are undergoing modernisation activities, and have successfully navigated different integration challenges
• Experience in information security concepts and how they can be applied to deliver secure solutions appropriate for financial services organisations
• Knowledge of application hosting in either AWS, Azure or GCP and associate technologies and cloud native tools
