We’re actively seeking a talented Sr. Data Science Lead to join our Enterprise Risk Management team in Newport Beach, CA to manage the risk analytics activities across the company
Pacific Life seeks to strategically and profitably grow our business through diverse product offerings across global geographies, as a direct writer (through the Consumer Market Division, Institutional Division and Workplace Benefit Division) and as a reinsurer/retrocessionaire (through the international reinsurance division Pacific Life Re). This provides a unique opportunity to consider and connect multiple perspectives in creating a consistent view of risks and the business implications.
To support Pacific Life’s digital first and data driven insights and decision-making strategy, you will work with stakeholders and analytics practitioners across the enterprise to manage the risks in the development and implementation of data analytics strategy including accelerated underwriting, experience study, assumption development, economic capital, reinsurance and emerging regulatory requirements on the use of AI, etc.

How You Will Make An Impact
• Responsible for the research and development (R&D) of risk quantification, i.e. Economic Capital(EC) and Value of New Business(VBN), in pricing, valuation and capital management. Develop consistent tail stress calibration, risk aggregation and diversification through collaboration with cross-functional & cross-divisional teams.
• Responsible for second-line effective challenge and oversight of assumption development, reinsurance, counter-party analysis, etc. as assigned, including the effective use of predictive analytics.
• Support the execution of the Corporate Strategic Objectives, balancing data, analytics and business considerations, to deliver sound and practical solutions.
• Support the aggregate risk monitoring, partner with divisions to drive data strategy and process automation to achieve timely risk reporting.
• As a trusted data science expert, support business strategy and execution through consultative engagements
The Experience You Will Bring
• Hands-on experience in developing data science models with successful deployment
• Advanced degree in quantitative fields (e.g. Statistics, Machine Learning)
• Expert in at least one statistical learning tool and object oriented language (e.g. R)
• 10+ years of experience in insurance/reinsurance industry, in functional areas such as experience studies, assumption development, capital management, reinsurance, etc. across multiple lines of business
• Demonstrated courage in effective challenges with both solid analysis and business acumen to drive practical solutions
• Self-starter with a continuous improvement mindset. Manages ambiguity, exhibits courage, can work effectively with and influence different levels of the organization and across business lines.
• Strong visual communication skills to tell “the story” with right level of details for a wide range of audiences.

Base Pay Range
The base pay range noted represents the company’s good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.
$189,180.00 - $231,220.00
