About the role
At CES, we have ambitious targets to keep billions of drink containers out of landfill and transform them into resources that can be used again and again.
Our Engineers are a vital part of the CES team and we are looking for a Senior Back End Developer to help us in our mission and lead the development of innovative applications focused primarily around financial and payment systems.
You will have strong expertise in back end technologies (particularly Java and Spring Boot), designing and building API's that interact with relational databases whilst using modern testing frameworks and patterns.
You are a technical expert; you know how to do Test Driven Development and you look for creative ideas and solutions to complex problems.
We work heavily with Java, primarily on Kubernetes and Event Streaming technologies in Oracle Cloud, as well as AWS.
This is the perfect opportunity to work in an autonomous Back-End role on a modern tech stack whilst at the same time using your skills and expertise to make a true impact on the environment and our communities.
We work in a hybrid format to help you fit work around your life, and our IT team get together twice a week in our office to collaborate (and enjoy the incredible harbour views!).
Some key deliverables of the role:
• Develop and maintain high-quality applications using Java/Spring, using PostgreSQL (or similar relational databases).
• Design and develop RESTful API's that follow OpenAPI specifications.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in CES, including designers, architects and Front End developers, to implement performant, reliable and thoroughly tested code.
• Lead the technical design and implementation of back end solutions, focusing on scalability, reliability and performance.
• Mentor and guide junior developers, providing technical leadership and sharing best practices in back end development.
About you:
You are curious and always learning; you are comfortable to work independently and speak up to shape the best technical outcome. You also have:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field (or equivalent industry experience).
• 5+ years of professional experience as a Back End Developer, with strong proficiency in Java & Spring and relational databases.
• 3+ years of professional experience working with Container based applications and infrastructure.
• Some experience working with Event Driven applications using Kafka or similar tools.
• Proven track record of delivering high-quality applications with a focus on scalability, reliability and performance.
• Experience with modern test automation frameworks and practices (eg. BDD, TDD, Cucumber, Gherkin, JUnit etc).
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
• Great communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Bonus points for:
• Experience working with Financial and Payment systems (fintech background highly valued).
• PostgreSQL or Oracle experience.
• Kubernetes experience.
• Cloud experience (AWS/Azure/GCP)
