Salary: £40-£50,000 depending on experience plus an excellent benefits package Location: London (Hybrid working available) Closing date for applications: 7th January 2024 The opportunity: An opportunity to join our Data Science team supporting our Life business as a Machine Learning Engineer. In this role, you will combine the expertise of a Data, Machine Learning and Software Engineer to support and enhance products within our Life business. Your initial focus will be assisting Pricing Actuaries in adopting data science and software engineering practices while improving the pricing software for our Retail Protection products. You will build on an industry leading cloud platform which is already revolutionising how we do business in Life. In the future, you will continue to support the team in designing end-to-end solutions encompassing development, deployment, and testing, all while ensuring best practices are followed. By making use of our current Microsoft Azure infrastructure, you will deploy APIs, applications, and other resources directly to serve the business, thereby facilitating the widespread accessibility of data science, AI, and advanced analytics to everyone at Zurich! By joining our team as a Machine Learning Engineer, you will play a vital role in supporting our Life Business and driving the adoption of data science and advanced analytics practices. Your contributions will directly impact the enhancement of our business strategies, enabling us to remain competitive in the market while delivering value to our customers. What will you be doing? • Collaborate with colleagues in the life business to design comprehensive solutions for deploying and maintaining software products. • Advise on best practice regarding productionising and deployment and maintenance of machine learning products developed by the team. • Drive the adoption of machine learning solutions to accelerate benefit in the Life business, and advocate for best practices to maximise value. • Lead the testing and support of machine learning and cloud assets. • Work with cloud architects, data engineers and others to manage our infrastructure budgets, and to manage usage and costs to ensure budget is spent efficiently. • Assist in the development and enhancement of risk and pricing models using the latest techniques and software. • Contribute to the accelerated delivery of pricing rates, supporting the growth strategy of the Life business. • Effectively communicate technical work to non-technical audiences, showcasing the value of your contributions. • Assist with the governance and AI Ethics of machine learning assets from development to deployment and beyond. • Contribute to a positive and supportive team culture. What are we looking for? • Strong experience in Cloud technology, ideally using Microsoft Azure. • Ability to lead on best practices for productionising and maintaining software and machine learning assets. • Proficiency in programming languages. Essential: Python. Desirable: SQL, Scala, and R. • Experience with using Databricks to develop and deploy data and machine learning assets. • Demonstrated track record of successfully deploying and maintaining software assets in a production environment. • Familiarity with DevOps practices such as Git, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, containerisation, and automated testing. • Strong data analysis skills, comfortable working with large datasets. • Excellent collaboration and organisation skills. • Proficient communicator, who is comfortable explaining the value of their work and driving adoption. • Knowledge of the UK Life Protection market. (Desirable) • Proficiency in pricing techniques, including elasticity modelling, reinsurance, and profitability metrics.
