Position Summary
Patient Engagement in Research (PER) is a strategic priority for UHN Research, UHN aims to improve the learning health system with patient's insight, experience, and biological and clinical data by engaging and empowering our community of patients and partners across spectrum of research design, execution, interpretation, & communication. This not only offers the opportunity to drive research that is meaningful to patients but enables the organization to give back to patients and stakeholders by sharing what we've learned through our world-class research.
The Manager, Patient Engagement in Research works with the PiPER Lead Dr. Cathy Craven, PER Steering Committee, the research community, and stakeholders across the organization, including clinicians, scientists, research teams, senior leadership, Research Solutions & Services leadership, to promote the values of patient oriented research and leading practices that will drive authentic, transparent, responsive and accountable patient engagement in research. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work across all research institutes, hospital sites, as well as virtually, as assigned.
Duties
The PER Manager Will Be Responsible In
• Managing strategic initiatives and projects that are integral to creating a culture of patient engagement in research (PER) at UHN
• Assessing and monitoring of the external research environment, identifying leading practices and trends in PER
• Surveying and assessing patient preferences for engaging in research to inform PER program development.
• Collaborating with researchers and other internal stakeholders to identify current/ leading practices, services, systems, tools related to PER.
• Establishing and Coordinating governance structures and processes that align the values of establishing relationships and collaboration opportunities with patient community organizations
• Developing and delivering communications, training and orientation programs.
• Collecting, analyzing, and surveying related program data, trending results, preparing key performance indicators and preparing reports for leadership.
Qualifications
• Masters or advance degree (MBA, PhD, etc) preferred. At minimum, Bachelor’s degree, or recognized equivalent, in a health or science-related discipline is required.
• Expertise in Public Health, Health Sciences and Patient engagement are an asset.
• At least 3- 5 years of clinical experience and/ or expertise in academic research environment.( Wet/Dry lab, clinical research)
• Possess 2- 3 years of leadership and managerial experience.
• Holds recognized certification in clinical research (e.g., ACRP or SOCRA)
• Strong knowledge of concepts, values and theory related to patient engagement in healthcare and/or research are an asset.
• Experience in the practice of patient and community engagement is desired.
• Outstanding ability to interact with, engage, and build relationships with diverse stakeholders including scientists, researchers, senior level executives, management and front line staff.
• Expertise in business writing including policy, standards, reports and presentations.
• Expertise in developing analyzing and implementing organizational programs and processes.
• Excellent project management skills, with the demonstrated ability to manage multiple initiatives and people in an adaptive manner.
• Outstanding collaborative approach and interpersonal skills.
• Strong experience program planning and evaluation methodology.
• Strong critical thinking skills.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong data management and analytical skills.
• Excellent computer skills including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
