Job Description
Make your mark as Junior Geographic Information System Engineer and work for prestigious and challenging projects!
As a junior geographic information system engineer, you will be working for the Global Engineering department, one of our in-house engineering departments. You will do work for both the Boskalis Offshore Energy Division and Dredging and Infrastructural division. The GIS works relate to foundation- and cable installations, reclamations, dredging works, survey data, revetments, and breakwaters.
On one hand you will have a focus on spatial data, from simply visualizing and geoprocessing this data to solutions for project support and decision making. And on the other hand, you will have a focus on hands-on GIS deliverables for various tenders and projects.
Besides GIS, a background in geoscience is preferred. With your knowledge of either geology, geophysics, or geotechnics, you will provide input that allows our business units to properly deal with geohazards and their mitigation and maximize opportunities. You'll have the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse group of experts from various backgrounds, including geo- and GIS engineers in engineering geology, geotechnics, geophysics, and GIS. Your collaboration won't be limited to just the tender- and project teams, but also extend to the survey department, fostering a dynamic and productive work environment.
We provide an exciting work environment that includes a diverse range of multi-disciplinary projects, each with its own unique challenges. Through the services offered by Boskalis, we have the opportunity to work on projects worldwide and play a significant role in meeting the increasing demands of the Offshore Energy and Dredging markets. Our focus on larger projects, which often involve complex geological and geotechnical conditions, as well as the growing need for GIS support, means that the position we offer allows for direct contributions and is highly interesting.
Your responsibilities as a junior geographic information system engineer:
• Provide supportive engagement with tender and project teams.
• Collecting, managing, and analysing GIS data.
• Prepare deliverables such as maps, graphs, metadata, and reports and maintain and update geodatabases.
Your qualities
You can make your mark as junior geographic information system engineer if you have:
Strong self-organization, a proactive work attitude, and be a team player. Your knowledge, experience, analytical, and reporting skills will enable you to support projects. You will be responsible for initiating and completing assessments, reviewing assessments by colleagues and external consultants. You should also have a mindset to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and practical solutions. Additionally, there are other requirements applicable.
• Master’s degree in GIS.
• Preferably with a background in geoscience engineering.
• A minimum of 2 years of relevant GIS experience is desirable.
• Strong knowledge of ArcGIS Pro, FME Desktop and QGIS.
• Experience/affinity with programming in python.
