The Role: Founding ML Engineer
As our founding ML Engineer, you'll play a central role in our business, unlocking the potential of machine learning and LLM technologies for our platform. We are poised at a critical juncture where the rapid evolution of our product is being held back by our current bandwidth - Your expertise will be the key to breaking these barriers. Tasked with creating, understanding and enhancing user behaviors and site interactions, your insights, drawn from deep dives into analytics, models, and A/B testing, will become the backbone of our product evolution. Your work will be pivotal as we look to refine AI Agent architectures, develop custom LLMs, inject domain knowledge, and understand our users better, ensuring that every Traveler's interaction on our platform is optimized and enhanced. You will help drive a transformative impact, ensuring that our platform stands out as an industry leader, meeting and exceeding user expectations at every turn.
You'll report directly to our co-founder and VP of Data, Cian Menzel-Jones. In this role, you will:
• Design, prototype, and launch AI Agent architectures, focusing on enhancing front-end user interactions
• Continuously explore user data and site interactions, leveraging ML/analytics to identify, Prototype and implement, opportunities for enhancing the user product experience
• Develop backend solutions for any necessary data acquisition, retrievals, and processing
• Own the technical process end-to-end, from data sourcing to delivering refined ML models.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, translating business needs into data and ML solutions
• Continuously monitor and adapt to emerging technologies, ensuring our systems remain innovative
Desired Qualifications
• Deep expertise as a machine learning engineer or in a similar capacity
• Demonstrated experience building, evaluating, and testing machine learning models
• Strong programming skills, especially in Python, with a focus on implementing solutions using best software engineering practices
• Experience with common data science libraries like NumPy, pandas, and scikit-learn.
• Led the deployment and management of ML models in production settings
• Proven experience designing and conducting ML A/B tests
• Familiarity with the intricacies of building and managing data platforms in growth-oriented companies, be it in startups or tech-leading roles in larger organizations
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
• Ability to work proactively with an entrepreneurial spirit, showcasing strong project ownership.
• Flexibility and adaptability in dynamic environments, combined with a growth mindset focused on building successful teams and organizations
Bonus Experience
• Expertise in designing AI Agent architectures, particularly in the context of user interactions
• Hands-on experience with LLMs and related tooling, including GPT, Langchain, and HuggingFace
• Proficiency in deep learning techniques, reinforcement learning, and generative models
• Familiarity with popular ML frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, and Keras, including experience with text embeddings and transformer models

Total Compensation & Pay Transparency
The compensation package for this role is meant to align with top Series-A companies and includes:
• Cash Compensation: The expected cash compensation for US employees in this position is $180K - $240K.
• Equity: As a founding engineer on the team, you will be granted significant ownership in the company
