As a Barclays Legal Counsel - Data Privacy, your role is to is to provide assistance and expert legal advice on data privacy and related matters with respect to international data protection projects with the focus of enhancing customer experience through innovation and data initiatives, all aspects of Barclays’ current and proposed Cyber, Intelligence, and Insider Threat programmes, outsourcing and procurement transactions and corporate acquisitions and disposals.

What will you be doing?
• Identifying and addressing legal data privacy issues arising, including negotiating data privacy and data transfer issues in respect of contracts
• Providing appropriate management of data privacy legal risk arising from data mining and commercialisation, new regulations, the development & launch of new products
• Identifying & addressing data privacy issues from third-party engagements, negotiating & resolving issues with commercial contracts, data transfers & customer terms
• Analysing data privacy legal risks and provide a timely, commercial and pragmatic advice to the business or support area concerned on these issues
• Working closely with stakeholders, in particular the Technology, Cyber Security and Information functions to participate in the development of new business products
• Developing and delivering strategic data privacy risk management initiatives to assist assessing and managing its legal risks e.g. horizon scanning, business training
• Participating in the development of controls, processes, policies and procedures designed to reduce data privacy legal risk and/or increase the efficiency of the team
• Establishing credibility at the most senior levels in the organisation first class influencing & negotiating skills and ability to plan how best to win support and gain co-operation
What we’re looking for:
• Qualified lawyer
• Excellent technical knowledge of data privacy law, including the GDPR and EU/International experience, social media and data commercialisation legal issues, cyber and insider threat
• Solid technical knowledge of contract, commercial, IT and/or outsourcing law
• Excellent communication skills - verbal and written (technical and non-technical)
Skills that will help you in the role:
• Good knowledge of international freedom of information/open government law desirable
• Familiarity with the businesses and products across the banking/financial services industry and relevant legal issues affecting them
• Business awareness and commercial focus
• Delivery of imaginative solutions at pace under pressure and in a change driven environment
