WHO WE ARE
Session is an Australian, open source, private messaging application. We build cutting edge, onion routed and end-to-end encrypted tools to deliver the most secure and user-friendly messaging experience that exists today. Working on Session involves developing novel solutions to tricky real world problems and working with/on groundbreaking technologies. We are looking for individuals who are excited to drive the next frontier of personal communication technology and user privacy tools.
We started developing Session in 2019 and have reached over 750k active users, as of November 2023.

THE ROLE
We are growing our mobile development team, and are looking for a Senior Android developer who can drive the development of Session Android to improve its usability, performance and functionality.
You will be part of a team of 6 developer's working on Session, which we are expanding, you will help direct the development efforts of the Session Android team alongside other senior engineers. Day to day you will move between writing code yourself, and working with the iOS, and Desktop teams to tackle how new features should be designed and implemented with efficient and high quality code.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
This role is for a Senior engineer with a minimum of 2 years working experience . Startup and open source software experience is a plus.
Specifically for this role we are looking for someone who has:
Significant experience working on native Android Applications (Kotlin preferred) An aptitude for User Interface/Front End Design A passion for building open source software which preserves user privacy The ability to work flexibly, adapting to the needs of the project, and in a self-directed way.
To be successful in this role you will need deep expertise in Android application development, specifically with Kotlin, Java is used in the Session application but to a lesser degree.
This role will be based in Melbourne, however for the right candidate we are willing to accommodate a remote working arrangement
Compensation is dependent on your experience and skill level, with base salary between the ranges of $100,000AUD and $150,000AUD plus super, but we will consider offering outside of this range for exceptional candidates. We also offer other crypto based incentive programs to employees.

We are a team of 24+ people working across Session, Oxen and Lokinet. The team is made up of driven engineers and professionals who share a passion for privacy focused decentralised technologies. We have a great office in central Melbourne, as well as some remote developers in the US and Canada.
