Summary
LHH is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager with Electrical and Controls expertise for a manufacturing organization in the Arlington Heights, IL area. This role oversees all engineering activities within the business unit, serving as the technical authority for electrical systems, controls, embedded hardware, PCB design, automation, and related technologies.
The Engineering Manager will lead a multidisciplinary engineering team, drive new product development, ensure product reliability and compliance, support root cause analysis, and provide expert technical guidance to internal teams and customers. This position plays a critical role in delivering innovative, reliable electrical solutions and supporting long-term customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership & Management
• Oversee all engineering activities for the business unit, ensuring alignment with organizational goals
• Serve as the primary technical authority for electrical and controls engineering, including PCB design, embedded hardware/firmware, and automation systems
• Lead, mentor, and develop engineering team members to meet organizational performance goals
• Manage project execution, planning, resource allocation, and technical deliverables across multiple concurrent initiatives
Product Development & Market Alignment
• Drive the design and development of electromechanical and automated systems based on product roadmaps
• Collaborate with product management to transform market needs into technical specifications
• Ensure new and existing products meet reliability, safety, code compliance, and competitive standards
• Coordinate with internal and external partners to complete development initiatives on time and within budget
Continuous Improvement & Root Cause Analysis
• Champion continuous improvement across engineering processes and product performance
• Lead root cause analysis for technical issues, implement corrective actions, and share learnings
• Improve engineering documentation and refine processes for scalable and repeatable development practices
Customer Support & Technical Expertise
• Provide expert technical guidance and customer support to ensure user satisfaction and confidence
• Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
• Support customer needs related to technical troubleshooting and system integration
Collaboration & Reporting
• Report to senior leadership on engineering activity, project status, risks, and strategic metrics
• Partner with operations, product management, and cross-functional teams to deliver integrated solutions
• Perform additional related duties as assigned
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; master’s degree preferred
• 10+ years of progressive electrical or electromechanical engineering experience
• Proven leadership experience managing or supervising engineering teams
• Hands-on experience with embedded hardware, PCB layout, small drives and motors, automation systems, and electrical certifications
• Strong electromechanical troubleshooting skills and systems engineering background
• Proficiency in CAD and electrical simulation software
• Experience in vertical transportation or related industries preferred
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills across all organizational levels
• Demonstrated ability to drive performance, support organizational goals, and make sound decisions
• Ability to identify issues, recommend solutions, and manage risks effectively
Compensation
• Base salary range: $140,000 – $180,000 per year
• Bonus: Annual discretionary bonus based on company and individual performance
• No additional forms of compensation (e.g., stock options, equity, profit sharing)
• Salary range is consistent across all locations
